How each kind of listing sells

Rooms, tours, hire cars, transfers, charters, packages and events — what you set up, how it is priced, and what is particular to each.

You can offer more than one kind of thing — a lodge that also runs tours, a transport company with hire cars — and each has its own editor. The listing editor is what a thing is and what it costs. The calendar is when it can be sold. Here is what is particular to each.

  • Rooms — a room type (a “Garden twin”, of which you may have four) with a nightly rate. Travellers see the type, the cheapest rate as the “from” price, and how many are left when it is three or fewer. Bookings pool across the units of a type, so you do not assign a specific room until they arrive. Optional: a base occupancy with an extra-adult amount and one child price.
  • Tours and experiences — a product with departures. Each departure has a date and a number of seats; travellers buy seats per person. A child price is one amount, never an age table: under-5s are free, 5 to 15 pay the child price, 16 and over the adult price.
  • Hire cars — a vehicle class (a “Toyota Hilux 4WD”, of which you may have three) with a daily rate and an optional refundable deposit. Each unit has its registration. Travellers must give a valid driver's licence at checkout. The deposit is security, not income: it is returned after the hire, and any damage deduction must be itemised within a set window and can never exceed the deposit.
  • Transfers — you publish routes (airport pickup, airport drop-off, town to town) with a price per vehicle class. Travellers see “from” the cheapest class and pick one; the price is per trip, not per person. Armed escort and out-of-town pickup are extras they choose at checkout. There is no public hourly hire — only routes.
  • Fishing charters and boat trips — the boat is your asset; the thing travellers buy is a charter service on it, on one date, priced per angler or for the whole boat, with a refundable deposit. Booking a service holds the boat for the service's length, and a boat you block on the calendar cannot be sold that day.
  • Packages — one flat-priced trip you have put together (two nights plus a tour), with what is included, how many days, and a cover photo. Sold and paid as one booking.
  • Events — a dated, ticketed sign-up with a capacity and a price. Sign-ups are paid to reserve and an automatic waitlist fills places as they free. Events are not bookings and do not touch your rooms or vehicles.

A listing appears in search only when it is published, has a price, and your bank details are saved. Travellers must be able to book and pay it; if they cannot, it is hidden rather than offered as an enquiry.

Extras belong to every kind of listing: breakfast, a child seat, fuel, gear. Each extra is priced one way — flat per booking, per night or day, per guest, or per guest per night — and the traveller chooses them at checkout, so they are on the invoice before anyone pays.
